A Low Opening Bid = More Money

Many novice sellers are afraid to use a low opening bid for fear that it will be the only bid they receive. If you are selling crap that nobody wants, I'm sure this is a legitimate concern.

If, howerver, you are selling something desirable, you are leaving money on the table with a high opening bid.

The reasons:

  1. An item that receives an early bid is much more likley to receive multiple bids.
  2. Auction fever can't take hold. It takes a low opening bid to plant the seed of larceny in the average heart.
  3. Insertion fees. Keep the opening bid under $10 and the basic fee is only 35 cents.
